[interview] KiLLKiLLS – Punk Rock to Die For

As the former leader and guitarist of Japanese band ketchup mania, unapologetic punk-rocker DAI is no stranger to USA fans. In 2008-2009,DAI toured America with ketchup mania to perform at Sakura-Con, A-KON, SXSW, and the nationwide Japan Nite tour.

After the sudden breakup of ketchup mania in 2009, DAI formed his own label in Tokyo, SPLATTER RECORDS, and began the process of forming his first new band under the label — KiLLKiLLS, which features DAI on guitar and vocals and reunites him with ex-ketchup mania drummer WANI. He gave his first English-language interview to purple SKY about the release of their first album Allium.

October 31, 2009 – Japanese rock band HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR returns to the USA with a new vocalist and heavier sound. HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR will play a live concert at Sakura-Con 2010 and attend autograph and Q&A sessions for fans during Sakura-Con’s three-day event in Seattle, WA on April 2-4, 2010.

HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR profile:
Formed in Okinawa, Japanese rock band HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR has contributed theme songs for three hit anime series: “Bleach,” “Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny: Special Edition,” and “Darker Than Black.” The band has also contributed film songs for “Death Note: The Last Name (tribute album)” and “Anata wo Wasurenai.” In 2009, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR (also known to their Japanese fans as “Haikara”) returned to their original label Spice Records and released a new album “Swamp Man” featuring a new vocalist HALCA. Their appearance at Sakura-Con 2010 will mark their first overseas performance with their new lineup.

October 9, 2009 – Japanese indie rock band Dazzle Vision will make their North American debut at Sakura-Con 2010. The band will perform a live concert and attend autograph and Q&A sessions for fans during Sakura-Con’s three-day event in Seattle, WA on April 2-4, 2010.

Dazzle Vision is:

Vocals – Maiko
7-String Guitar – Yu
5-String Bass – Takuro
Drums – Haru (ex. Goofy Style)

Popular in the Japanese indie scene for their hard rock sound and Maiko’s alternating melodic/death-voice vocals, Dazzle Vision was formed in June 2003, and has held their current lineup since May 2008.

Dazzle Vision released their first album Origin of Dazzle in November of 2006. Their second album Camellia Japonica was released in April 2007, followed by an 11-city tour of Japan. After selling out of the first presses of Origin of Dazzle and Camellia Japonica, their 3rd album Crystal Children hit #1 on HMV’s pre-sale chart and #2 on Tower Records pre-sale chart prior to its official release in November 2008.

New girugamesh single “BORDER” available on JapanFiles

August 4, 2009 – Japanese rock band girugamesh releases its latest 2-track single “BORDER” in Japan today, and it’s available on the JapanFiles digital music website on the same day as its Japanese release. Fans in North America can download the single for just 99 cents a track in 320 kbps MP3 format.

Thanks to USA fans, over 4000 copies of their USA CD releases, “Girugamesh” and “MUSIC,” have been sold through the JapanFiles online store, online retailers, and Hot Topic stores nationwide. The USA releases feature Japanese-language booklets and artwork identical to the Japanese CD releases.

Girugamesh recently performed at Sakura-Con in Seattle, WA, in April 2009.

JapanFiles and BounDEE will work together in the coming months to expand the catalog of independent artists available to Japanese music fans through the JapanFiles.com digital music website.
